Spencer S. Wood (1882–1940) was a U. S. naval officer, the second commander of USS Oklahoma.
He served with the United States Asiatic Fleet from 1889 to 1891 He served near Hawaii in 1893 and 1894. He commanded USS Dupont, during the Spanish-American War. He was aide to Admiral of the Navy George Dewey, from 1905 to 1908.
He spent two years as a member of the General Board of the United States Navy, from 1915 and 1917. He was commanding officer of USS Oklahoma. He was Commandant of the Second Naval District in 1918-1919, and during the Newport sex scandal. He served as Commander of Cruiser Division 1, near Honduras in 1920 and 1921. In 1921, he bought John Stoddert Haw House, in Georgetown (Washington, D.C.).
His papers are held at the Naval Historical Center.[1]
